NailKey - MicroGenDx Labs - Nail Tissue

from £550.00

If discoloured, thickened or brittle nails are affecting your confidence — and nothing seems to help — then knowing the exact microbial cause can make all the difference. The NailKEY by MicroGenDx home test brings professional-grade diagnostic technology into your hands. Rather than relying on traditional cultures that often miss hard-to-grow organisms, this test analyses DNA from your nail sample using qPCR and next-generation sequencing (NGS) to detect a broad range of fungi and bacteria associated with nail infections.

✅ Analyses DNA from your nail sample
✅ Ideal for onychomycosis, chronic, mixed, or low-abundance cases, especially when cultures are negative or inconclusive.

You will be asked to fill out a patient form at checkout which will give us more information on your symptoms, current medications and supplement intake.

NailKey delivers advanced diagnostics of onychomycosis and chronic nail infections. It detects both bacterial and fungal pathogens, Ideal for complex, treatment-resistant, or mixed infections where conventional diagnostics may miss the cause. The qPCR report quantifies bacterial load, identifies key pathogens, and screens for 17 antimicrobial resistance genes. The NGS report builds on this with high-resolution sequencing, identifying over 50,000 microbial species for broader pathogen insight and more informed treatment planning.

Q. When should you consider this test?

Consider NailKey in cases of onychomycosis and chronic nail infections. Ideal for patients with long-standing or recurrent nail symptoms where standard treatments or cultures have failed to provide clarity.

Useful when prior antifungal or antibiotic use may have suppressed microbial growth, making conventional testing unreliable. Provides accurate pathogen identification, detecting both common and rare bacterial or fungal species, including those difficult to culture, ensuring more precise treatment planning. High sensitivity makes it valuable in identifying multiple pathogens in the same sample, which may contribute to persistent or atypical presentations.

Q. What is the process?

Your kit is posted to you from the UK within 24-48 hours of ordering so you should receive your test kit within a few days via DHL. You can then arrange for DHL to collect your samples using the free returns service. If you are ordering from outside the UK we will ship via DHL or Fedex with free return labels.

Store samples in the fridge until ready to ship. Ensure you return your sample between a Monday and Wednesday Only

Do not take antibiotics or use topical antifungals within 2 days prior to sample collection. For best results, you should be off antibiotics for at least 48 hours before sample collection. However, if this is not possible, the test can still be performed.
