Vaginal Microbiome Health Test - Swab

from £400.00

The Vaginal Microbiome Health Test provides a detailed analysis of your vaginal pH and microbial balance, helping to identify recurring infections, discharge, odour or irritation. It screens for bacteria linked to bacterial vaginosis (BV), yeast overgrowth, and other causes of discomfort. This test is ideal for anyone seeking to support their intimate health, fertility or post-antibiotic recovery.

✅ Assesses pH, lactobacillus levels, and markers for BV and yeast imbalance
✅ Useful for chronic vaginal symptoms, irritation, or discharge

The vaginal microbiome is the community of microbes that live in the vaginal environment. When protective bacteria — particularly lactobacilli — are well-supported and vaginal pH stays in a healthy range, it helps maintain comfort, resilience, and defence against infection. When that balance shifts, symptoms such as unusual discharge, odour, itching or recurring infections can follow.

This vaginal microbiome test UK combines a vaginal pH assessment with a detailed vaginal swab analysis to help you understand whether microbial imbalance may be contributing to your symptoms — and what the broader picture of your vaginal ecosystem looks like.

FAQs

Q. How do you support me with my results?

If you do not select Lab Result Only, in addition to your lab report we provide the following options which are INCLUDED in the package prices:

A) Follow up personalised written report produced by our clinical team highlighting dietary and lifestyle advice plus links to supplement protocols, specific doses and any further testing requirements included. We use the patient information you provide us at checkout along with your results to compile personalised action points for you.

OR

B) Follow up 30-minute video call to discuss your results and answer any questions you have. Once the lab has completed your results you will be sent these via email with a link to book a time and day online. You will also then be given the option to upgrade your 30-minute call to a 45-minute call for an additional £30 if you wish. During the call your practitioner will explain the results in more detail and what they mean for you. After your call you are sent a personalised list of supplements & the dose your practitioner advises with links to purchase from our supplements store. This is for your convenience. You are of course welcome to purchase supplements elsewhere. You will also be provided with a list of follow up tests should this be required plus a copy of your recorded zoom call which you can download and keep.

OR

C) Both Zoom call and written report with personalised next steps (Zoom call is first and written report follows).

Q. What is the process?

You can take this test at any time during your monthly cycle but we recommend not taking the test during menstruation. The most useful time to take your sample is when you are experiencing any unwanted symptoms. It is appropriate for those assigned female at birth and over the age of 18.

Once ordered, you will receive your test kit via Royal Mail in 2–3 days. This is a self-test kit that can be done at home. Follow the instructions included in the kit to test your vaginal pH using a pH strip and sample your microbiome using a swab. Follow the instructions for packaging your sample and REMEMBER to register your test online. Use the included prepaid envelope to return your sample by post.

Q. When should you consider this test?

The Vaginal Microbiome test provides a comprehensive assessment of vaginal health and can help identify microbial imbalances that may contribute to recurrent conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, or urinary tract infections (UTIs). Because shotgun sequencing detects all microbial DNA present, it offers a broad and unbiased overview of the vaginal ecosystem.

This test is suitable at any stage of investigation or care, whether exploring new symptoms, persistent or recurrent issues, or monitoring changes over time. It is particularly useful for:

  • Investigating symptoms such as itching, odour, irritation, or unusual discharge
  • Understanding recurrent or treatment-resistant infections
  • Supporting fertility and pregnancy planning
  • Managing menopause-related vaginal changes
  • Monitoring microbiome changes following treatment or intervention
Q. What makes this test different from a standard vaginal swab?

Unlike many standard vaginal swab tests that look for a limited panel of organisms, this vaginal microbiome test uses advanced shotgun metagenomic sequencing to assess a wide range of microbial DNA in one sample — including bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

It also includes absolute abundance, showing how much of each microbe is actually present (not just its relative proportion), which supports clearer interpretation of genuine overgrowth or depletion. This makes it one of the most comprehensive vaginal microbiome tests available by post in the UK.

Q. What does the vaginal microbiome test measure?

Vaginal pH and lactobacillus levels: The kit includes a pH strip to assess your vaginal environment alongside the swab. Lactobacillus levels are assessed, as these protective bacteria play a key role in maintaining a healthy vaginal pH and defending against harmful overgrowth.

BV and yeast markers: The test screens for microbes linked to bacterial vaginosis (BV) — including Gardnerella vaginalis and Atopobium vaginae — as well as markers associated with yeast overgrowth including multiple Candida species. It is particularly useful as a recurrent BV test if symptoms keep returning despite treatment.

Broad microbial profile: Because this is a shotgun sequencing test, any microbes present in the sample can be reported — not just a fixed panel. This provides a fuller picture of your vaginal flora for persistent or treatment-resistant symptoms.

Q. Who is this test for?

This test is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over with UK delivery. It is particularly useful for:

  • Recurring symptoms — discharge, odour, itching, irritation or recurring infections where a root-cause microbial picture is needed rather than a single-pathogen result
  • Recurrent BV, yeast infections or UTIs — especially where symptoms keep returning or feel resistant to standard treatment
  • Fertility and pregnancy planning — to understand vaginal microbial balance ahead of conception
  • Menopause-related vaginal changes — to monitor shifts in the vaginal microbiome during hormonal transitions
  • Post-antibiotic recovery — to assess microbiome changes following antibiotic use
