Full Blood Test UK - Comprehensive At-Home Health Check with Nurse Visit
The Full Blood Test is a 48-marker venous blood panel carried out in your own home by a licensed nurse, available anywhere in the United Kingdom. Unlike a standard GP blood test, which typically covers a handful of markers, this comprehensive blood test at home analyses red and white blood cells, liver and kidney function, iron status, cholesterol, thyroid hormones, key vitamins and minerals, inflammatory markers, and reproductive hormones appropriate to your sex. Results are returned within five working days as a detailed PDF report with doctor's notes, giving you a complete baseline from a single appointment - no clinic visit required.
This full blood panel is used by people investigating persistent fatigue, suspected thyroid dysfunction, hormonal changes around menopause or andropause, and early signs of metabolic conditions such as insulin resistance or elevated cholesterol. Because it includes HBA1C, high-sensitivity CRP and uric acid alongside a full nutritional profile, it also serves as an annual health MOT for anyone who wants to track inflammation, diabetes risk, gout risk, or nutrient status over time. A great starting point before more targeted testing - particularly where low energy, iron deficiency, or hormone imbalance has not been adequately investigated through routine NHS blood work.

A free post return envelope is included with your kit so when the nurse has taken your sample, simply pop it straight in a post box. We recommend you arrange your blood tests Mon–Weds to avoid samples being delayed in the post over weekends. Results should be available in 7 working days
Q. Who should consider the Full Blood Test?
This test is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over — male or female — who wants a thorough overview of their current health. It is particularly useful if you are experiencing:
- Persistent fatigue or unexplained energy slumps
- Suspected thyroid issues (weight changes, temperature sensitivity, brain fog)
- Signs of iron deficiency such as breathlessness, pallor, or brittle nails
- Symptoms of hormone imbalance — irregular periods, low libido, mood changes, or menopausal symptoms
- Elevated cholesterol or a family history of cardiovascular disease
- Concerns about diabetes risk, gout, or chronic low-grade inflammation
- A desire to establish a health baseline or track progress after dietary or lifestyle changes
Because the panel includes both female hormones (FSH, LH, Oestradiol) and male hormones (Testosterone), reports are tailored to your sex automatically.
Q. How does this test compare to a standard NHS blood test?
A routine NHS blood test typically focuses on a small number of markers — often just a full blood count, basic liver or kidney function, and perhaps HBA1C or cholesterol if specifically requested. This 48-marker panel goes considerably further by combining those core checks with iron studies (including transferrin saturation and TIBC), a full thyroid profile (TSH, T3 and T4), active B12, folate, vitamin D, magnesium, high-sensitivity CRP for inflammation, uric acid for gout risk, and sex-specific hormones. The result is a single, joined-up picture of nutritional, metabolic, and hormonal health rather than a series of isolated snapshots requested over multiple GP appointments.
Q. What biomarker categories are included in the 48-marker panel?
The test covers 15 clinical categories. The full marker list is as follows:
- Red Blood Cells — HCT (haematocrit), Haemoglobin, MCH, MCHC, MCV, Red Blood Cell (RBC) Count
- White Blood Cells — White cell count, Basophils, Eosinophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Neutrophils
- Proteins — Globulin, Albumin, Total Proteins
- Liver Health — Bilirubin, ALT, GGT, ALP
- Kidney Function — Creatinine, Urea, EGFR
- Diabetes — HBA1C
- Iron Status — Iron, Total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), Transferrin Saturation, Ferritin
- Cholesterol — LDL Cholesterol, Non HDL Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Total Cholesterol, Total Cholesterol HDL ratio, Triglycerides
- Gout Risk — Uric Acid
- Clotting Status — MPV (Mean Platelet Volume), Platelet Count
- Inflammation — High Sensitivity CRP (CRP-hs)
- Vitamins — Active B12, Folate, Vitamin D
- Thyroid Function — TSH, T3, T4
- Minerals — Magnesium
- Hormones — FSH, LH, Oestradiol (female) or Testosterone (male)
Q. Do I need to fast before this blood test?
General fasting is not required. However, if you want the most accurate triglyceride and LDL cholesterol readings, an eight-hour or overnight fast before a morning appointment is recommended. You should also avoid fatty foods for eight hours before the test and stay well hydrated. Heavy exercise should be avoided for 48 hours beforehand, as it can temporarily affect several markers including liver enzymes and inflammatory markers.
Q. Can I use this test to check my fertility hormones?
The test includes key reproductive hormones — FSH, LH, and Oestradiol for women, and Testosterone for men — which can provide an initial insight into fertility status. For the most clinically useful female hormone results, the sample should be taken between days 3 and 5 of your menstrual cycle. If you need a more detailed fertility or hormone investigation, the clinic also offers the Fertility DNA Test and dedicated hormone panels that assess a wider range of reproductive markers.
Q. Can I order this test from outside the United Kingdom?
No — this test is available to UK patients only. The venous blood draw is carried out by a nurse who visits your home anywhere in the UK, and the sample must be returned via the included freepost envelope to reach the laboratory within its stability window. International shipping is not available for this test. If you are based outside the UK and looking for a comprehensive health screen, please contact the clinic to discuss alternative options.
Q. How does this test relate to other blood tests offered by Body Fabulous?
The Full Blood Test provides the broadest single-panel overview of nutritional, metabolic, and hormonal health. If your results highlight a specific area of concern, you may wish to follow up with more targeted testing. For example:
- Elevated liver markers or suspected detoxification issues — the Hepatic Detox Profile offers a detailed urinary assessment of phase I and phase II liver detoxification pathways
- Suboptimal B12, folate, or methylation markers — the Methylation Vitamin Blood Test provides a deeper dive into methylation-related nutrients
- Cardiovascular inflammation concerns — the Cardiovascular Inflammation Test (CIT) measures advanced inflammatory markers beyond CRP
- Fatty acid imbalance — the Omega-3 Omega-6 Finger Prick Blood Test assesses your omega balance in detail
